Frequently Asked Questions
Safety shoes are work shoes that protect your feet from workplace hazards, such as falling objects, sharp materials or slippery floors. They comply with established safety standards, such as S1, S2 or S3. Depending on your working environment, you should choose a pair of safety shoes with the appropriate protection and features. You can find more information on the page about safety standards.
Safety footwear reduces the risk of injury at work. It protects your feet against impact, sharp objects and slipping. In addition, safety shoes provide comfort and support during long working days. In many sectors, safety shoes are compulsory and form part of personal protective equipment (PPE).
You should choose the right safety footwear based on your working environment and the associated risks. Consider the surface, moisture, temperature and the risk of falling or sharp objects. Comfort and fit also play an important role when choosing safety footwear. Based on these factors, you can determine the appropriate safety standard and features. Find out how to choose the right safety footwear for your working environment.
The right safety footwear depends on the type of work you do. For example, if you work outdoors, with heavy materials or on slippery floors, you’ll need different protection to that required for light or dry work. Requirements vary by sector. Take a look at the page listing all sectors to see what’s suitable for your working environment.
Choosing the right size of safety footwear is important for comfort and safety. A shoe should fit snugly without being too tight, with enough room at the toes. As the fit can vary from model to model, we recommend trying them on. You can do this at a dealer or via the on-site fitting service (Pasbus). Would you like to know more about how the Pasbus works? Please contact us or discuss the options with your dealer.
Yes. The main difference is that safety shoes have a protective toe cap and offer protection against impacts to the toes. Work shoes do not have a protective toe cap, but may still comply with other safety standards. These include features such as slip resistance, antistatic properties, a closed heel, energy absorption in the heel and water resistance. Which shoe is suitable depends on the risks and tasks involved in the workplace.
How long safety shoes last depends on how they are used and the working conditions. With intensive use, they often need replacing after around 6 to 12 months. Wear and tear on the sole, damage to the protective toe cap or reduced cushioning are signs that the shoes need replacing. Read more about this on the Maintenance and Lifespan page.
